The Arizona quarter is finally being released, with the famous Saguaro design.

Isn’t it lovely?
I see some Opuntias on there too, plus what is that I see in the background? Why, I think it’s a sunset! Yes! Yes it is a sunset! And here I thought the sun set over the Pacific, as viewed from California, not over the Grand Canyon. What were those numismatists thinking?

I think it’s one of the most attractive of the state quarters, not because I’m a native, but because of the elements chosen to be on the quarter. It is a little overbusy, but fun to look at.
Arizona is also known as the Sunset State, among other things (oven and hell come to mind) so the sunset depiction is there to represent the famously beautiful sunsets we have here.

Well, I see there’s some state to state competition going on here.
Beautiful sunsets over the Pacific vs. some crummy sunset around some big hole in the ground. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
