Uhm…”kinder gentler century plant”, why’s that?

This variety is less vicious that the regular one, plus it’s leaves tend to curl more out of the way, rather than spreading right out into your eye. But it’s still a dangerous plant nontheless.

I don’t know if you’ve seen the century plant adjacent to Berkeley Hort. It’s located on the east side of McGee between Rose and Hopkins streets. The plant is incredible, it makes the hairs raise on the back of my neck. This spring the plant emitted a giant blooming spike; the occasion thrilled me at first, until I realized that soon it shall die. You must see it ASAP.
Love the blog!
