Euphorbia “Ascot Rainbow” is one of the Euphorbia x martinii hybrids, and a patented one at that (PP21401).
I don’t know how this one got past Hap since he doesn’t like for us to carry the variegated spurges.
I also don’t know what the name “Ascot Rainbow” means. I don’t see any ascots here, and I don’t see no stinkin’ rainbow.
Personally, I would like to call this one, “Prim Morning” but then I’m an idiot. Sounds like a contest time! Best new name for this patented variegated spurge wins something! If you’re local, a really nice water wand. If you’re not local, how about a box of biodegradeable kitchen bags? Or if you prefer, a Cactus Pup.
More info about it if you care to keep digging before coming up with a better name.

Is there a Euphorbia called Aurora yet?
Those swirling greens remind me of this (1), and the red pops are found in the Aurora Borealis, too.

Heat and drought tolerant. I wonder if I could stick it in a pot here? (Phoenix)
Hmmmm.

Needs some shade in Phoenix, and lots of summer water.

I’m going with ‘lime blush’…why? Well to me the lime color is the predominant feature of this Euphorbia and there is a distinctive ‘blush’ or pink tint to the foliage at times. At least on mine.

According to the PR, “In the cooler months, the foliage at the ends of the stems becomes flushed with shades of red, pink, and orange.” Seem to remember rainbows having some blue and purple in there as well. Hmmm.
How about ‘Over the Rainbow’. (Take that as you like…)

Tiki Time, in reference to its Martini roots and limey/coconutty/sunsety stripes.

Nice. We’ll leave this contest open through the weekend to see if we can generate any more ideas for the owners of the patent.

How about ‘Cayenne and Lime’

for a variegated spurge this one is almost OK, perhaps because it is a tri-color. I still loath ‘Silver Swan’ and ‘Tasmanian Tiger’…

It’s a tie! Christine and Chris each got half the final name.
The final winning name is “Tiki Lime”! That’s so much better than “Ascot Rainbow.” Someone should let the patent holders know we have improved their product for them.
