Aechmea fasciata
The classic vase-shaped bromeliad from Brazil. It’s semi-hardy here if you have a protected spot but we prefer not to worry and so we keep them indoor.
I don’t really have much to add to that stunning display of pink red purple and blue, so I’ll just let the picture speak for itself.

Beautiful. I wonder how it would do in my office (downtown sf)? Does it need a lot of light? One concern I would have is that whenever I put interesting flowers in my office, co-workers tend to touch and/or pet the petals. Why? Why would you touch a flower? Isn’t that weird?

It will do well in a SF office with some bright light nearby. As for the flowers, they’re a bit stiffer than most since it’s a bromeliad, so it’s OK to touch.
